[ Prompt: Golden ] And So We Weep (TWST)
Jan. 15th, 2025 01:52 pmFandom: Twisted Wonderland
Characters: Fafnir Vanrouge (OC), Lilia Vanrouge (Canon), Baby Silver (Canon)
Rating: Gen
Relationship: OC x Canon, OC & Canon
“Father? Will Papa Faf ever wake up?”
Silver’s little voice, so innocent, so inquisitive, is enough to shake Lilia from his trance. For once he was faced with a question he didn’t know the answer to. Fafnir was always much better equipped to handle their son’s rapid fire inquiries, so it wasn’t uncommon that Lilia left it to him when there was something he didn’t readily know.
What was he supposed to do now that he was alone?
He doesn’t dare meet Silver’s gaze, little eyes that Fafnir often compared to an aurora borealis and ocean pearls. Lilia knows the weight of that gaze—and the weight of any answer he could hope to conjure—would threaten to tear both their hearts in two. He can’t bring himself to speak, let alone face the reality of his husband lying comatose in the coffin in front of them.
Fafnir isn’t here to do this with him.
He would once again be alone.
He would have to raise Silver alone.
The realization hits him like a ton of bricks. Before he realizes it, he’s shaking, and Silver notices. A part Lilia knows that Silver isn’t stupid. The young boy has probably answered his own question a million different ways in his own head before he even uttered the words.
"We'll have to wait and see, dear boy," Lilia finally spoke, biting his lip to ensure his voice doesn't crack. "I'm sure he won't keep us waiting too long."
The tiny boy grips his father's hand, and that smile is the only thing keeping Lilia tethered to the ground. "Ok! I'll make sure I collect lots and lots of books so I can read 'em to Papa Faf when he wakes up!"
"He'll love that, especially if you show him all the fancy new words you learned along the way."
There was something Lilia admired about Silver's childish innocence, bright and brilliant as it was. He secretly hoped that the world wouldn't try to take it away from him in the midst of all they faced.
