[ Prompt: Held ] Comfortable Silence (Genshin Impact)
Fandom: Genshin Impact
Characters: Original Male Character, Il Capitano (Canon Character)
Rating: Gen
Warnings: None
Relationship: OC x Canon (Mutual Secret Pining, Slow Burn)
Notes: Basically what happens when the idea for a new OC x Canon ship wakes me from my slumber in the dead of night! Random snippet from one of the moments leading up to their relationship is random xD Enjoy!
“C-Commander?” Tristan stared up at the man in disbelief, still clinging tightly to the shawl freshly draped around his shoulders in the off chance that this was all a dream. He hadn't even heard the man approach. “I-I don’t understand—“
“There is nothing to understand,” Capitano immediately cuts him off. “You were cold. My cloak should keep you warm for the time being.”
Now Tristan is positive this must be a dream. Why would Capitano offer him of all people the fur lined cloak that rarely ever left his side? He instinctively wants to apologize, parted lips trembling in fear for potentially being a burden, but Capitano was quick with a response for that, too.
“Do not apologize, Tristan.” Capitano’s face remained slightly turned in Tristan’s direction, almost as if he is waiting for something.
“O-Of course. Thank you, Commander.” Warmth rises to sun-kissed cheeks as he utters his gratitude, quickly casting his eyes back to the crowd below.
They’re already high enough as is on the balcony, but having Capitano’s cloak wrapped around him, having the object of his secret affections so close by makes Tristan feel higher than any cloud. The lanterns at the festival below would be jealous of him, his smile brighter than any star.
Silence falls over them for a time, allowing the noises of the festivities to dance around them as the night carried on, but Tristan is snapped from his trance when Capitano speaks.
“It appears you are enjoying yourself.”
Tristan hadn’t noticed his commander staring at him while he was trapped in his trance, not even realizing that Capitano had moved closer to him.
“I-I am, yes.” Tristan cursed himself for his stammering as he adjusted his bright red glasses, trying to compose himself in the moment. “This new year’s festival doesn’t happen often, so it’s always nice to catch it when I can.”
“Good,” Capitano spoke with a hum. “When it returns, we will be here.”
“Wait, what? Y-You mean—”
“The next time you wish to attend, you need only ask. I will accompany you.” A beat passes as Capitano adjusts his cloak to cover more of Tristan’s frame. “It’s clear that this is important to you, or else you wouldn’t have snuck off to attend.”
If this is truly a dream, Tristan would rather sleep forever than wake up. “T-That…That means everything to me. T-Thank you, Capitano—I-I mean Commander.” In the midst of silently punishing himself for the slip, he catches wind of a soft, yet pleasant sound.
Capitano chuckled?
Finally brave enough to meet the man gaze—as much as one can through Capitano’s helmet, anyways—he catches the soft, breathy laughter as the man folded his arms across his chest.
“Need you be so skittish around me? We have known each other long enough.”
“F-Fair…”
“Enjoy yourself. That is an order.” It feels less like a command and more like a friendly request. “We will head out at first light.”
Defeat turns into embarrassment, which soon melts away into a relaxed smile as the man across from him turns to face the crowd below. “Thank you” wouldn’t be enough to capture everything he’s felt for the commander he’s known for several years. How admiration melds with adoration, how it bubbled into something more before he could catch it.
Maybe one day Tristan would be brave enough to tell him everything, but for now, he’d settle for comfortable silence as they enjoyed a peaceful night.
